The story of TIME

The April 11, 2016 TIME magazine cover story is titled "Why young men who grew up with internet porn are becoming advocates for turning it off".  It is worth reading, along with comments from a book review that follow the article, "How porn is changing a generation of girls".

I've heard Patrick Carnes speak on a variety of topics.  At some point in the discussion he will give his perspective on the care needed for those effected by what he calls the "tsunami effect" of internet porn. I think TIME's cover story is a recognition of this tsunami.  Last week, Paula Hall gave a TedX talk which is a terrific overview of the challenges facing men and women in a society now increasingly effected by the "tsunami" Carnes speaks of.  Paula Hall makes this point: We need to talk about sex addiction. In her talk, she says "the biggest barrier to getting help with sex addiction is the secrecy and shame that surrounds it". It would seem, it is the story of our time. And yet, the story of secrecy and shame is in fact the oldest story of all time.
